The inaugural KL Tigers PETRA International Rugby 10s that took place in Malaysia recently is considered one of the region’s foremost rugby tournaments. The tournament saw 120 teams from South East Asia clash at Epsom College, Bandar ENSTEK, Negeri Sembilan.
The tournament featured teams ranging from Under-6 to Under-16 as well as Senior groups. In addition, non-contact rugby teams and women rugby teams were also represented at the event.
Datuk Vinod Sekhar, president and chief executive officer of PETRA Group, the title sponsor for the tournament said, “PETRA Group’s support for the tournament is all about creating a fitter, more competitive Malaysia through the rugged sport.”

The two-day tournament turned out to be non-stop rugger action with the main highlight being the senior group final match between KL Tigers from Kuala Lumpur and NS Wanderers from Seremban, Negeri Sembilan. The closely-fought final was an exciting encounter with lots of thrills and excitement. The match was won 29-10 by the Negeri Sembilan team before they were deservingly crowned the champions.
Besides the finals for each category, all the lead-up games were closely contested. As all the teams battled it out during the two-day tournament in sizzling heat; match goers were able to witness the exceptional sportsmanship showcased by the players. All games were being played in the true spirit of rugby.
